Have not read your book (hint) but I do know of a man in MI who was involved in translating Superman newspaper strips to German during WW2. As the story goes, one such strip apparently suggested something atomic, so it was reworded to avoid and Axis interest that something may be going on in the US along those lines. Soon afterward, news about a new bomb bore the caution to have been wise.If you're interested in more about this, I'm at the email here.

Re Irving Brecher and "The Life of Riley," you can read all about it in Brecher's new book, seven years in the making with journalist Hank Rosenfeld. It's called "The Wicked Wit of the West: The last great Golden Age screenwriter shares the hilarity and heartaches of working with Groucho, Garland, Gleason, Burns, Berle, Benny & many more." Groucho himself nicknamed Brecher "The wicked wit of the West."
At least two reviewers have called it the funniest book of the year!Brecher died in November 2008, exactly two months before his 95th birthday and the publication date of the book.

The goal, jjh, of course is to hit the stated date if possible (by midnight Pacific time), but failing that, I post-date just for archiving purposes. It keeps everything exactly the right time apart, which makes it a lot easier for me when I start doing archives for each of the legend categories (which I'm actually starting to do this week! I'm planning on starting archives for any category that gets past five installments, so this week I'll be doing archives for TV, Music and Movies).

Hey man, love the site, I check it every day. This also leads me to ask: Do you have a special calendar you use or do you employ time travel or what? Because as I said I read the site every day so I notice when a post is put up one day but has the previous day's date on it. This seems to happen all the time, and I recall a week or 2 ago a post that went up that was dated 4 days earlier. I know this is kind of silly, but it really just makes me curious whenever I see it so I had to ask.
