I agree with Ed up there. How could a good actor not be able to swing a bat convincingly left handed? Throwing would be hell but a lefty swing shouldn’t be very hard.

If Boy is Pal’s decendent, would that make him a “great-great-grandpuppy”? “Granddog” sounds like it would be older. It’s splitting hairs a bit, I know, but the way it’s written kind of threw me off.

I had that picture of Lassie (color, paw raised) when I was seven or eight, back in the early sixties.
It was sent in response to my first fan letter.

I have to believe the problem was Cooper throwing right-handed, not batting right-handed. Anyone can switch-hit, given a little practice, but it’s extremely hard to “switch-throw”. Billy Crystal used the same backwards uniform trick in 61* to make righty Anthony Michael Hall into the lefty Whitey Ford.

As for the “young” Max Von Sydow, I’m reminded of the line in Woody Allen’s “Love and Death”, when someone calls Woody’s character a young coward: “I’m 35, that’s not so young.” Von Sydow was 35, and had made his movie debut 16 years prior.

I read in ‘Darwin’s Orchestra’ that because of Lassie, the white blaze on the forehead, became a desirable trait for show collies, whereas before, it had always been undesirable, as you vaguely mentioned here.

The idea of Max von Sydow playing Jesus always sounds strange to me. I first saw him as Ming the Merciless, and I tend to think of him as playing villains.

This phrasing is somewhat awkward. You probably should say “Lou Gehrig batted left-handed.” Whether or not you bat left-handed or right-handed, you use both hands, unless you’re Pete Gray or Jim Abbott.
