Just thought I'd point out that in the final version of the film, Garland ~still~ has to fight off a smile at that point -- she buries her face in the dog. It's subtle, but it's there.

What I've always thought was interesting is that Kansas is in black-and-white and Oz in colour-- in the original book! Or at least it describes everything in Kansas as being dull and grey, and Oz as being bright and colourful. I've told people before that Kansas is black-and-white in the book, and they usually don't believe me.

Snopes already featured it, and I don't like to repeat their stories.
