A friend of mine says that in one of the episodes, Penelope uses a device called a vibrator! That can&#8217;t really be true, can it?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>To quickly answer your questions, Kerry &#8211; yes and yes!<\/p>\n<p>But let&#8217;s give some more detail&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Penelope Pitstop was one of the many stars of Hanna-Barbera&#8217;s short-lived animated series, Wacky Races.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/legendsrevealed.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/wackyraceswallpaper1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><iframe src=\"http:\/\/rcm.amazon.com\/e\/cm?t=legenrevea-20&#038;o=1&#038;p=8&#038;l=as1&#038;asins=B0002MFGDW&#038;fc1=000000&#038;IS2=1&#038;lt1=_blank&#038;m=amazon&#038;lc1=0000FF&#038;bc1=000000&#038;bg1=FFFFFF&#038;f=ifr\" style=\"width:120px;height:240px;\" scrolling=\"no\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Wacky Races came out in 1968, and was most likely based on the 1965 film, The Great Race&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/legendsrevealed.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/great_race.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><iframe src=\"http:\/\/rcm.amazon.com\/e\/cm?t=legenrevea-20&#038;o=1&#038;p=8&#038;l=as1&#038;asins=B000063K2R&#038;fc1=000000&#038;IS2=1&#038;lt1=_blank&#038;m=amazon&#038;lc1=0000FF&#038;bc1=000000&#038;bg1=FFFFFF&#038;f=ifr\" style=\"width:120px;height:240px;\" scrolling=\"no\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The show had a very large cast of colorful characters, who would, well, race. <\/p>\n<p>Each individual\/group would have his\/her\/their own unique vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Penelope Pitstop was one of the most popular characters on the show.<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/legendsrevealed.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/penelope20pitstop.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Her vehicle was the Compact Pussycat, which was basically a beauty shop on wheels.<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/legendsrevealed.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/compactpussycatani.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>She would have various little devices in her car that would help her, like she could click on &#8220;blow dry&#8221; and a giant blow dryer would come out and stop a bad guy from trying to mess with her car. Stuff like that.<\/p>\n<p>So the $64,000 question &#8211; was one of those devices a vibrator?<\/p>\n<p>Yes, one of them was a vibrator!<\/p>\n<p>Here is a picture of the dashboard (courtesy of <a href=\"http:\/\/alana-isms.blogspot.com\/2009\/06\/show-and-tell-excuse-me-for-being.html\">Alana-isms<\/a>) featuring the vibrator!<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/legendsrevealed.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/vibrator.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>What it did was that when activated an extra seat-belt strap would come out around Penelope to keep her secure, and then the car would, well, vibrate.<\/p>\n<p>Presumably this kept the other cars from getting close to her while she drove?<\/p>\n<p>Now the question we leave to YOU folks is, do you think it was an intentional joke or not?<\/p>\n<p>Penelope was popular enough that after Wacky Races ended, she received her own short-lived spin-off series, The Perils of Penelope Pitstop!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/legendsrevealed.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/perilsof.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><iframe src=\"http:\/\/rcm.amazon.com\/e\/cm?t=legenrevea-20&#038;o=1&#038;p=8&#038;l=as1&#038;asins=B0007QS31K&#038;fc1=000000&#038;IS2=1&#038;lt1=_blank&#038;m=amazon&#038;lc1=0000FF&#038;bc1=000000&#038;bg1=FFFFFF&#038;f=ifr\" style=\"width:120px;height:240px;\" scrolling=\"no\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The legend is&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><u><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">STATUS<\/span><\/u>: True<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to Kerry for the question and thanks to Alana for the photographic evidence!<\/p>\n<p>Feel free (heck, I implore you!) to write in with your suggestions for future urban legends columns!
