Click <a href=\"http:\/\/legendsrevealed.com\/entertainment\/2009\/04\/19\/music-legends-revealed-history\/\">here<\/a> to view an archive of the music urban legends featured so far.<\/p>\n<p><u><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">MUSIC URBAN LEGEND<\/span><\/u>:  A singer once had a Top 40 song with 28 variations of the song depending on where the song was released!<\/p>\n<p>Tommy Facenda broke into the music industry while still in his teens, working as a member of Gene Vincent&#8217;s backing band, the Blue Caps, in 1957 (Facenda was 18).<\/p>\n<p>Facenda was a strong guitarist, and a good singer, to boot, and soon he was pursuing a solo career, as well.<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/legendsrevealed.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/facenda1p.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>His solo career did not go particularly far, but he did have one Top 40 hit, and it was one of the more bizarre Top 40 hits that you&#8217;ll see!<\/p>\n<p>Frank Guida, head of Legrend Records, gave Facenda a song based on the high schools in Guida&#8217;s home state of Virginia, called &#8220;High School U.S.A.&#8221; The song references a number of high schools in Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>Then Guida had a stroke of genius (or madness?)!<\/p>\n<p>First, he would have Facenda record a &#8220;national&#8221; version of the song (where he would name cities rather than high schools), then he would have him record a different version of &#8220;High School U.S.A.&#8221; for each region of the United States (well, a lot of them, at least)!<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/legendsrevealed.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/highschoolusa.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><iframe src=\"http:\/\/rcm.amazon.com\/e\/cm?t=legenrevea-20&#038;o=1&#038;p=8&#038;l=as1&#038;asins=B0001OTOVQ&#038;fc1=000000&#038;IS2=1&#038;lt1=_blank&#038;m=amazon&#038;lc1=0000FF&#038;bc1=000000&#038;bg1=FFFFFF&#038;f=ifr\" style=\"width:120px;height:240px;\" scrolling=\"no\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/center><br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nEach regional version of the song would mention high schools from that region &#8211; it was a very impressive job of editing to make all the various high schools fit into the basic song structure of the tune.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the TWENTY-EIGHT regional versions of the song!<\/p>\n<p>    * Virginia<br \/>\n    * New York City<br \/>\n    * North &#038; South Carolina<br \/>\n    * Washington D.C.<br \/>\n    * Philadelphia<br \/>\n    * Detroit<br \/>\n    * Pittsburgh<br \/>\n    * Minneapolis\/St. Paul<br \/>\n    * Florida<br \/>\n    * Newark, New Jersey<br \/>\n    * Boston<br \/>\n    * Cleveland<br \/>\n    * Buffalo<br \/>\n    * Hartford, Connecticut<br \/>\n    * Nashville<br \/>\n    * Indianapolis<br \/>\n    * Chicago<br \/>\n    * New Orleans<br \/>\n    * St. Louis &#038; Kansas City<br \/>\n    * Georgia &#038; Alabama<br \/>\n    * Cincinnati<br \/>\n    * Memphis<br \/>\n    * Los Angeles<br \/>\n    * San Francisco<br \/>\n    * Texas<br \/>\n    * Seattle, WA &#038; Portland, OR<br \/>\n    * Denver<br \/>\n    * Oklahoma <\/p>\n<p>Amazing, huh?<\/p>\n<p>The song went to #28 on the Billboard Top 100.<\/p>\n<p>Facenda ended up quitting show business during the 1960s and became a firefighter (and part time actor) for more than thirty years.<\/p>\n<p>The legend is&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><u><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">STATUS<\/span><\/u>: True<\/p>\n<p>Feel free (heck, I implore you!) to write in with your suggestions for future urban legends columns!
