{"id":4715,"date":"2013-05-17T05:52:45","date_gmt":"2013-05-17T13:52:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/legendsrevealed.com\/entertainment\/?p=4715"},"modified":"2013-05-16T01:55:11","modified_gmt":"2013-05-16T09:55:11","slug":"did-hugo-boss-really-make-uniforms-for-the-nazis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/legendsrevealed.com\/entertainment\/2013\/05\/17\/did-hugo-boss-really-make-uniforms-for-the-nazis\/","title":{"rendered":"Did Hugo Boss Really Make Uniforms for the Nazis?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here is the latest in a series of examinations into urban legends related to fashion and whether they are true or false. <\/p>\n<p><u><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">FASHION URBAN LEGEND<\/span><\/u>: Hugo Boss produced uniforms for the Nazis.<\/p>\n<p>Hugo Ferdinand Boss started his first clothing business in the early 1920s, when Boss was in his early 40s.<\/p>\n<p>By 1930, Boss was forced to declare bankruptcy.<\/p>\n<p>In 1931, Boss joined the National Socialist party.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nWhen the Nazis took power in 1933, Boss soon found himself contracted to produce the uniforms for the Nazi Schutzstaffel (their paramilitary force from 1925 until 1945).<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/legendsrevealed.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/86520.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>And damned if they did not do a very nice job making snazzy uniforms for the Nazis.<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/legendsrevealed.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/300px-die_uniformen_der_allgemeinen_ss.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>These uniforms were mass produced in factories often manned by Prisoners of War. <\/p>\n<p>Boss, naturally, did not do so well after the Nazis were defeated, but he was allowed to continue to run his company and in the years following the war, the company re-geared itself as a designer and producer of men&#8217;s suits. <\/p>\n<p>And after Boss&#8217; death in 1948, the company hit a boom period in the 1960s and 1970s and Hugo Boss is now one of the most successful clothing company in the entire world.<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/legendsrevealed.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/hugoboss.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The company, admittedly, has done a nice job, I&#8217;d say, of cooperating with any inquiries into their past &#8211; they&#8217;re as ashamed as anyone else, but what can they do?<\/p>\n<p>Still, it&#8217;s pretty striking to think about the often-tainted history of some of these German companies.<\/p>\n<p>The legend is&#8230; <\/p>\n<p><u><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">STATUS<\/span><\/u>: True<\/p>\n<p>Feel free (heck, I implore you!) to write in with your suggestions for future installments!
