Click <a href=\"http:\/\/legendsrevealed.com\/entertainment\/2009\/04\/19\/movie-legends-revealed-history\/\">here<\/a> to view an archive of the Movie urban legends featured so far.<\/p>\n<p><u><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">MOVIE URBAN LEGEND<\/span><\/u>: Spaceballs had a deal that involved them agreeing to do very limited licensing tie-ins with their film. <\/p>\n<p>One of the most famous scenes in Mel Brooks&#8217; Star Wars parody, Spaceballs&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/legendsrevealed.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/spaceballsposter.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><iframe src=\"http:\/\/rcm-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/cm?t=legenrevea-20&#038;o=1&#038;p=8&#038;l=as1&#038;asins=0792844890&#038;ref=tf_til&#038;fc1=000000&#038;IS2=1&#038;lt1=_blank&#038;m=amazon&#038;lc1=0000FF&#038;bc1=000000&#038;bg1=FFFFFF&#038;f=ifr\" style=\"width:120px;height:240px;\" scrolling=\"no\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>was the scene where Brooks (as the Yoda parody &#8220;Yogurt&#8221;) mocks the proliferation of Star Wars merchandising by telling the other characters in the film that the real money is in merchandising!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/legendsrevealed.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/spaceballs.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Amazingly enough, the film Spaceballs actually did not have any notable tie-in merchandising of its own. <\/p>\n<p>Why was this?<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>You see, when Brooks decided to make the parody, he cleared it first with George Lucas. Lucas signed a fair use agreement with Brooks that stated that Brooks&#8217; use of the characters based on Lucas&#8217; Star Wars characters was fair use and not copyright infringement (Brooks might have been able to prevail under a parody defense, but obviously he did not even want to deal with it). <\/p>\n<p>A condition of Lucas signing the agreement, however, was that Brooks agreed to not release any merchandise based on the film that would be considered as competing directly with Lucas&#8217; Star Wars products on the market place, whether the film they were based on was a parody or not. Brooks agreed, and that is why the action figures that Dark Helmet plays with in the film&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/legendsrevealed.com\/entertainment\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/darkhelmet.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>are the only action figures of the characters you&#8217;ll likely ever see (unless you know people who make custom figures, of course). <\/p>\n<p>The legend is&#8230;<\/p>\n<p> <u><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">STATUS<\/span><\/u>: True<\/p>\n<p>Feel free (heck, I implore you!) to write in with your suggestions for future installments!
