Is Kanye West’s “Homecoming” About a Girl Named “Wendy”?

MUSIC URBAN LEGEND: “Homecoming” is about a woman named Wendy.
This one is pretty close to being too silly to even feature here, but what can I say? It surprisingly (or maybe not so surprisingly) comes up a LOT. Just do a search on the internet, you’ll find a bunch of references to people asking about who “Wendy” is on the Kanye West song “Homecoming.”
So what’s the deal?
Early in the tune, West talks about a girl that he once knew and he seems to say something that sounds sort of like “Wendy,” but in reality, he is saying “Windy,” as the song is one long love letter to Chicago, where West grew up (Chicago is the “girl” that he has known since he was 3).
What’s particularly disappointing is that the end of the song even has West say, “And if you don’t know by now, I’m talkin’ about Chi-town.” Don’t get much more direct than that.
